I once saw a lack of hope,
a lack of trust, and a lack of honesty.
And I could no longer settle,
as my heart yearned for certainty—
for love; to be trusted, to be loved,
and to be… to simply be.
To be the inspiration
that once inspired me.
To be the champion
in my own life’s story.
To be the truth seeker
in a world shrouded in mystery.
To be the oathkeeper
in a world of lies and deceit.
I will be all of that and more,
because I know myself,
and I trust myself.
And the self that I am today
will be a better self tomorrow—
and an even better self
every day that follows.
And all of what I believed
I needed from others,
I could find within myself.
And so I changed how I thought,
and over time, I no longer felt lonely…
