A Violet's Scarf

Published on 14 March 2016 at 15:37

I had given you a violet scarf—

sewn from the fabric of time—

that you would wrap around your neck

on every beautiful night.

Whilst under the stars,

in the evening’s fluorescent sky,

we’d sit in the candlelight,

wishing upon every single star—

hoping that not too far,

the sea would say hello,

and the moon would say goodnight.

And I will chase all the fish in the sea

until I catch you, and only you.

And I will hand you a glass jar,

and tell you to catch me a firefly

that will burn as brightly

as the glowing stars in your eyes—

which has forced my heart to beat,

thread by thread,

as the scarf becomes complete.

And I will see you in the afterlife—

because that is where all the angels go.

And I just know

that you are one of them...

so you don’t have to pretend,

ever again.
