My Soul Will Sleep

A lantern shone itself through the darkness,

lighting a path for the lost wanderers.

But not all was truly as it seemed,

for there was a deeper darkness nearby.

It crept closer and closer.

Breaking the barriers in between.

Shattering the light into pieces.

Destroying what was left

of a broken soul; a dying hope.

Though, on a brand-new day

She made her way to me,

as I saw her fractured smile.

She said, “My heart has broken—it is no more.

I can no longer live. I can no longer breathe.”

And I answered her prayers,

“Here, take my heart—

As long as you live, as long as you breathe,

my soul will sleep, sleep so peacefully.”
